SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Saturday announced the construction of 5,000 housing units under the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) programme in Seremban 2, Rasah and Senawang.

He said the homes, to be jointly built by PR1MA and the state government, would be for households with an income of between RM2,500 and RM7,500.

Najib said unlike the Opposition, the Barisan government has delivered all its promises made to the people which include the awarding of Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia aid (BR1M) and the affordable housing PR1MA project.

"That is the difference between our critics and us. While they had organised Bersih and then Bersih 2.0, my government had given out BR1M and now BR1M2.0," he said to applause from the crowd.

Najib said 5,000 units, which will cost between 20% and 30% lower than the market price, will be built here in the next two years.

Depending on the location, the houses would be priced between RM150,000 and RM300,000 while the minimum size would be 243sqm.

"This is what you get when you have a state administration and a federal government which thinks for the people unlike in Selangor where we are unable to build the Langat 2 water treatment facility," he said.

Najib said the government would also provide a RM158mil facility to allow the extension of the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas) to Temiang and North Seremban.

The move, he said would benefit some 10,000 families living in the area.

Earlier in the day, Najib and Rosmah met residents in Ampangan during a walkabout.

During the event, he also officially launched the construction of the RM8.9mil Ampangan Hawkers' Centre and later joined the people for breakfast at the existing hawker centre.

Najib said the government had promised the hawkers in the area that it would help build a new centre to house them to enable them to do business in a more conducive environment.

"This is a classic example of our Janji DiTepati slogan," he said adding that he was confident that Barisan would be able to wrest back the Ampangan seat which it narrowly lost in the last polls.

The construction of the new hawker centre which began last month is expected to be completed by May next year.
