A HOST of goodies await the rakyat under the Government’s various 1Malaysia assistance schemes included in Budget 2013, including cash handouts, housing and healthcare initiatives.

Taking immediate effect in January is the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0, which will benefit 4.3 million households and 2.7 million single, unmarried individuals.

Besides allocating another RM500 to needy households earning less than RM3,000 a month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said RM250 would be given to single, unmarried individuals who met the criteria. This assistance will be extended to single, unmarried individuals aged 21 and above and earning not more than RM2,000 a month.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said a total of RM3bil had been allocated for the scheme and that existing BR1M recipients would not need to register a second time.

For the healthcare sector, Najib announced that RM20mil would be allocated to launch 70 new 1Malaysia Clinics next year.

The clinics will also begin providing blood test services including cholesterol, glucose and urine tests.

A sum of RM100mil has also been allocated to upgrade 350 clinics nationwide as well as provide additional 150 dialysis machines in public haemodialysis centres nationwide.

Other 1Malaysia allocations include RM386mil to open 57 Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan and RM500mil to Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) to build 80,000 houses with a selling price of between RM100,000 and RM400,000 per unit. Another RM500mil is allocated to the Housing Facilitation Fund to build houses in collaboration with private developers so that the selling price will be 20% lower than the market price.

The less fortunate and those in the low-income group will benefit from the RM1.2bil allocation to the 1Malaysia Welfare Programme (KAR1SMA). The funds will be channelled to assist senior citizens, children and disabled workers as well as those with chronic illnesses.

A RM50mil allocation has also been introduced to train poor Indian students in estates who did not achieve good examination results.

The 1Malaysian Development Berhad Trust will allocate RM300mil to provide education grants and financial assistance, including in the interior of Sarawak.
