Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said it would be done in phases, but should be ready within two years.
"There will be interchanges as well to think of as they will cut through straight to the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas)."
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak would launch the project on Saturday when he visits the state for the Jelajah Janji Ditepati programme.
Mohamad said within two years there should be 1,500 to 2,000 houses ready.
"In five years, we want to see at least 6,000 to 8,000 units of PR1MA houses ready."
Mohamad said one of the main reasons for building the homes in Seremban was the fact that more people working in Kuala Lumpur were opting to stay in Seremban because of the lower cost of living.
"The only thing that we have to improve on is our public transportation and road systems which are being put in place," he said, adding by then Seremban would be a metropolis.
Mohamad said there had been a realisation that many people were stuck just above the low-income group which did not allow them to qualify for low-income housing.
"People earning RM1,500 to RM6,000 are categorised as middle-income earners who find it difficult to buy houses especially in the Klang Valley because of rising prices. This is where PR1MA comes into play."
"We have identified six locations where PR1MA houses can be built for the middle-income group," he said.
Mohamad added these projects would have to be built on government land.
"There's no way of building the homes at the lower prices using commercial land.
"I'm confident that the prime minister will stress heavily on housing issues when he announces the 2013 Budget."
Mohamad said this was because housing was one of those issues that could really be damaging to people if not remedied.
