PETALING JAYA: Assistant IT manager Anandh Inbarraju is overjoyed with Budget 2013 as it contains goodies for him and his family.
The benefits, which include a smartphone rebate, book vouchers and income tax savings, translate to more than RM1,000 in savings for his family of six.
Anandh had been trying to buy an affordable home in Klang or Shah Alam costing RM200,000 or less but it had proven to be difficult as the average selling price is RM350,000.
Now, the 26-year-old’s dream may become a reality as the Budget proposes that the government agency PR1MA build 80,000 houses in Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Johor Baru, Seremban and Kuantan with property prices ranging between RM100,000 and RM400,000 per unit.
He also welcomed the 1% income tax deduction as it would contribute to further savings for him to buy his own home.
He is also excited over the RM200 smartphone rebate and 50% discount on KTM Komuter fares.
Anandh said he was thinking of buying a better quality smartphone.
Anandh commutes to work in Kuala Lumpur on motorbike from Klang and takes the Komuter train only when it rains.
With the fare discount, he is considering switching to the Komuter as the savings would be “quite substantial”.
“If I ride my bike, I pay RM5 for petrol and RM2 for parking every day. If I take the Komuter, I can save around RM4.30 a day or RM86 a month,” said Anandh.
Anandh’s parents, who sell magazines and audio CDs in Klang, are excited to get another BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia) payment.
They had received RM500 under last year’s budget allocations.
“The BR1M aid will help us meet our household expenses,” said Inbarraju Kuttar, 53.
His wife, Sathyabama Gopalakrishnan, 48, would be eligible for the free mammogram examination.
Her other children, Thanaletchumy, 15, and Sathiyaraj, 17, will be sitting for their PMR and SPM examinations this year and will benefit from the RM100 book vouchers which they each will get, while Premraj, 22, a salesman, will get the BR1M 2.0 aid of RM250 allocated to unmarried people earning less than RM2,000 a month.
